A study on utilizing electrospun polyvinylacetate(PVAc) for HEPA filter media

Polyvinylacetate(PVAc) nanofiber were prepared by electrospinning for utilizing HEPA filter media. Electrospinning was performed with various concentration 5wt% to 30wt% in ethanol under following electrospining conditions; 100 §?/min flow rate, 15kV voltage and 10cm tip-to-collector distanced(TCD). As the PVAc solution concentration increased, the morphology changed from bead fiber to a uniform structure and the fiber diameter increased gradually up to 1616nm. At below PVAc 10wt% concentration, bead formed instead of fiber. For the PVAc 10wt%, 15wt%, 20wt% and 25wt%, the average diameter of fibers were 301, 782, 1587 and 1616nm respectively. The filter performance measured by penetration efficiency and pressure drop at the 5L/min condition with NaCl particles from 0.1um to 0.6um ranges. In case of cotton media, before electrospun the efficiency is 4.068% but efficiency is increased up to 99.999% after electrospun time 120minute with 20wt% PVAc. For the unwoven felt media initial efficiency is 23.908% and increased up to 87.336% and 99.745% at electrospun time 120min and 160min respectively.
