Variation of Lactoferrin Gene Within and Among Different Species

A total number of 60 lactoferrin (LF) gene sequences with complete CDS belonging to 11 species were analyzed as well as its differentiation within and among different species. The results showed that most of the species have the stop codon TAA with the variation of Mus musculus using TGA. The length of LF gene varies greatly from 2055bp to 2190bp due to deletion, insertion and stop codon mutation resulting in elongation. More genetic diversity was observed among species than within species and Sus scrofa has more polimorphism than others. New amino acid variation sites (8 in Homo sapiens, 6 in Mus musculus, 6 in Capra hircus, 10 in Bos taurus and 20 in Sus scrofa) were found within species, which might be used to analyze its function variation. The LF gene differentiated obviously among species and its clustering was basically consistent with the taxonomy in NCBI.
