Controlled-Release of Materials in Calcium Alginate Microbeads Prepared by Microfluidic Device

Microencapsulation provides a simple and effective way to enclose bioactive material like drugs and cells, within a semi-permeable polymeric membrane, which could help the materials inside keep bioactive and release the polymeric substances or their products in a controlled fashion. The morphology of the microbeads was examined. The efficiency of these polymer microcapsules as containers for controlled release of loaded molecules was evaluated by encapsulating the microbeads with RBITC and investigating the release performance using an inverted optical fluorescent microscope.
