Deducing deformation profile in tunnel lining based on Brillouin strain measurement technology

Built-in assessment system, e.g., distributed optical fiber sensing technology, has been developed for real time monitoring the integrity of critical structure components recent years. The monitoring is for early detecting the risks of the structure via deformation analysis at various points along the axis of the element. However, the measured data originally from the data logger is just limited to strain. Therefore, the transfer from strain into deformation becomes necessary. This study presents a reasonable relationship to estimate the deformation information based on beam mechanism analysis and arch model test. To eliminate noise in raw data, Fourier series is used as an approximation of the calculated displacement. The calculations are completed in the ubiquitous spreadsheet template. The deduced displacements by the present approach demonstrated a highly consistent with the experimental results of the corresponding arch tunnel model.
