Study on Application of Interferometric Distributed Optical Fiber Sensing Technology for the Oil and Gas Pipeline Pre-warning System
Two methods of distributed optical fiber sensing used in pipelines pre-warning are presented in this paper respectively. One of them is based on the principle of Sagnac interference and the other is based on that of Mach-Zehnder interference. They both use the fiber in optical cable laid along the pipeline to detect the acoustic signal caused by leakage and some third-party contracts around. Two modified structures are also introduced. Theory analysis and simulation are carried out to compare the two arts. Practically, the art of Mach-Zehnder interferometer has better accuracy than the other one in target recogmtion and location. Comparably, it needs higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for the art ofSagnac interferometer.
