Information and Knowledge Modeling for Product Design Based on Design Knowledge Repository
Due to the current trends that engineering product design becomes increasingly knowledgeintensive and collaborative. Designers are not only requiring, exchanging, searching or retrieving geometric data of products, but more general knowledge about design and design process. We first analyze design knowledge repository aiming at industry needs, and identify the difference between design knowledge repository and traditional database system. Then, a Function-Behaviour-Principle-State-Structure (FBPSS) framework based on the NIST core product model is proposed. We develop a general and flexible knowledge repository for product design and development, called KRFP, based on the FBPSS framework, and present a agent-based integrated system architecture supporting distributed virtual design environment according to the KREP.
