VISUALIZING THE EVOLUTION OF STRESS AND DEFORMATION OF THREE-DIMENSIONAL EARTH-ROCKFILL DAMS

Due to the complexity of earth-rockfill dams, it is difficult for the common commercial software to be widely applied to the numerical analysis of earth-rockfill dams. An alternative choice is to develop software independently based on the home-made programs.By combining the open software Gmsh and the home-made program FeaTerD, a three-dimensional finite element analysis software is developed, which is able to consider both complex boundary conditions and construction stage. It can visualize the evolution of stress and deformation of earth-rockfill dams during construction. The Shuangjiangkou earthrockfill dam is analyzed with the software to show its application to the finite element analysis of earth-rockfill dams.
