ANALYSIS OF VERTICAL BEARING CAPACITY OF SUPER-LONG ROCK-SOCKETED FILLING PILES

In order to discuss the bearing behavior and capacity of super-long rock-socketed filling piles located in soft soil area, a field vertical loading test on a test pile of a bridge located around the Dongting Lake in Hunan Province of China was first designed and finished. Then, based on the obtained test date and result, the load transferring mechanism and bearing behavior of super-long piles were deeply discussed. By introducing a bi- and tribroken line model to describe the load transferring rules along the pile shaft and under the pile tip respectively, analytical solutions for the vertical bearing capacity of super-long piles were derived. And a method to predict the vertical bearing capacity of super-long piles by the allowable pile top settlement is advised, in which the effect by the layered feature of subsoil and the sediment thickness under the pile tip were considered. Finally, the present method was applied in analyzing the result of the test pile above, and a good agreement was found between the predicted pile top load-settlement and the measured curve, which verified that vertical bearing capacity of super-long piles should be controlled by the allowable settlement. The analysis result also showed that, the buckling stability problem for the pile shaft of super-long rock-socketed filling piles should be paid attention.
