PRESSURE COEFFICIENT SIMULATED BY CFD FOR WIND-DRIVEN VENTILATION ANALYSIS
Pressure coefficients (CP) are fundamental tocalculate ventilation rates in buildings by the airflownetwork models (AFN). This paper deals with theuse of CFD simulation to calculate Cp, and the use ofthose Cp values as input in building energysimulations (BES). The commercial package CFXwas used to calculate CP for a 5-stories isolatedbuilding, typically found in social housing complexesin Brazil, The standard k-|? turbulence model wasadopted. The paper describes the software settingsand discusses the importance of some guidelinesprescriptions as mesh independence, adopted windprofile and the use of roughness in the domain floor. The Cp values were applied in the BES-AFN modelTAS for the S?o Paulo-Brazil climate. The mainconclusion is that mesh and the adopted wind profilehave a strong influence in the calculated Cp values, and the guidelines prescriptions are relevant andshould be followed. The BES-AFN results showlarge differences depending on the source of Cp data:the CFD simulation or the generic values found in the literature. Experimental validation isrecommended to assess the better Cp source for AFNmodel.
