THE EMPIRICAL VALIDATION OF A MODEL FOR SMALL-SCALE FUEL-CELL COGENERATION SYSTEMS
A mathematical model has been developed for simulatingthe performance of small-scale fuel-cell cogeneration sys-tems.An experimental programme has been conducted tocalibrate the model (I.e. establish its inputs) to simulatethe performance of a prototype solid-oxide fuel-cell system.Data from a disjunct set of experiments were used to em-piricallyvalidate this model and its calibration. Despite thechallenges in calibrating some terms which are significant to the models energy balances and despite some internally in-consistentmeasurements, comparisons between model pre-dictionsand quantities derived from the measurements werefound to range from acceptable to excellent. Agreement wasfound to be best for aspects of the model that could be iso-latedin the simpler comparisons while agreement was lesssatisfactory when examining parameters that required theconcurrent operation of all aspects of the model.
