OPTIMIZED LOAD PROFILES FOR A DISTRICT COOLING NETWORK SUPPORTED BY ABSORPTION CHILLERS USING THERMALLY ACTIVATED BUILDING COMPONENT SYSTEMS (TABS)

To optimize the future operation of a new district cooling network in Vienna, the calculated cooling load profiles are first analysed and optimized. In particular, the framework parameters for the operation and control strategy of thermally activated buildings component systems (TABS) are defined. In this work, the software TRNSYS is used to calculate the load profiles of different representative buildings to be provided with district cooling. Recommendations for the starting time of the cooling phase of TABS as well as for the cooling time are formulated on the basis of the simulations. The dependency of the TABS peak loads from the time of the day and the period of the year are analysed. As a result, the conditions to obtain optimized load profiles and to consider TABS as shiftable loads are presented.
