Indoor Air Quality Comparison between Residential and Public Buildings in Guiyang City of China
In order to assess indoor air quality (IAQ) in two different-type buildings in Guiyang city, IAQ measurements for 53 residential houses and 21 public locations were conducted from Jul. 2003 to Jan. 2005. T-test was used to process the monitoring data and Air Quality Index (AQI) method was used to assess the status quo of the two building types. The aggregative indexes got from AQI method were 0.750 in residential buildings and 0.459 in public buildings. As to the twelve monitoring pollutants, eight of them had higher average concentrations in residential houses than in public buildings. Thus it was clear IAQ in public buildings was better than that in residential buildings on the whole. The different indoor conditions such as room square, ventilation, remodeling level, etc. and indoor sources like fuel burning in the kitchen and tobacco smoking could be the main reasons for these different concentration levels.
