Indoor and outdoor air quality investigation at universities in Wuhan
The indoor and outdoor pollutants levels and environmental parameters were measured in three universities to study the air quality in universities classrooms. The results show that the indoor air quality is related to the type of ventilation system. The pollutants levels could be at low level in central air-conditioning classroom with outdoor air supply. The dust that produced by writing on the blackboard with chalk was the main indoor source of particulate matter. The PM 10 level could be 0.934 mg/m3 that was 6.23 times above Chinese Indoor Air Quality Standard. It has been found that the average ratios of the indoor and outdoor levels of CO and CO2 were 0.89 (S.D.=0.33) and 2.90 (S.D.=1.69), respectively. CO2 and particlulate matter were the two main air quality problems in university classroom. Good ventilation and avoiding unnecessary indoor air pollution sources, such as chalk writing, were the good methods to improve indoor air quality in university classroom.
