FIELD STUDIES OF THERMAL COMFORT BEFORE AND AFTER HEATING IN A UNIVERSITY CLASSROOM

Two field studies were conducted in a university classroom in the autumn of 2004 in Harbin. The object of this field study is to assess the thermal environment and human comfort in a university classroom before and during the heating period. A field study was carried out before the classroom was heated. And another one was done during the heating period. The thermal comfort variables were measured when the students were filling in the subjective questionnaires on the thermal sensation and thermal comfort to the indoor environment. 155 sets of questionnaire responses were obtained. The results reveal that the neutral operative temperature is 22.8℃, and the acceptable temperature range is 22.5~23.2℃, and the students thermal acceptability to the indoor thermal environment during the heating period is much higher than that before heating although the indoor physical environments are almost the same, and students are more sensitive to the environment and expected the classroom to be heated before the heating period.
