INVESTIGATION OF A NOVEL ONE-ROTOR TWO-STAGE DESICCANT COOLING SYSTEM
In the present study, a novel one-rotor two-stage desiccant cooling (ORTSDC) system which adopts one rotor desiccant wheel to realize two stage dehumidification processes is proposed. First, heat and mass transfer model to predict the ceramic compound desiccant wheel is modified to obtain higher accuracy. The modified model is combined with the mathematical expressions of other components to develop an integrated system model. Afterwards, under standard ARI (Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Institute) summer condition, the performance parameters such as thermal performance coefficient and moisture removal of this system are analyzed based on the proposed system model. It is shown that the system can provide satisfied air to the conditioned space in this situation. Also, the effect of wheel thickness on moisture removal capacity of the system is investigated by using the model. It is found that 90mm-110mm is an optimum range of wheel thickness at which the system could obtain maximal moisture removal. Finally, a design of experimental setup has been carried out. The result shows that volume of ORTSDC system is only half of that of TRTSDC system.
