EFFECT OF CONNECTING HOLE ARRANGEMENT ON MIXING BEHAVIOR IN THERMAL ENERGY STORAGE TANK OF MULTI-CONNECTED MIXING TYPE
A thermal energy storage tank of multi-connected mixing type is one of water thermal storage tank, is the most popular in Japan. The multi-connected mixing type is generally consisting of more than 15 tanks, and it is required for ensuring performance that water temperature in each tank is uniform. In this paper, a mixing model is presented. And experiments were conducted using scale model tanks. The following results were obtained. (1) In case that connecting hole arranged lower part of partition wall in series, a part of tank water was not well mixed with inflow water and, therefore, effective volume for heat storage was reduced. (2) When the upper connecting hole and lower one were arranged alternately in series, tank water was well mixed. (3) The conservancy of storage tank using piping is effective to improve mixing behavior in the tank. (4) The temperature distributions in the tank calculated using the mixing model agreed well with the experimental results.
