THE THERMAL STORAGE PERFORMANCE OF PARAFFIN MIXTURES

The phase change temperatures, the phase change latent heats and the stability of several kinds of paraffin and their mixtures were studied experimentally by differential scanning calorimeter. Experimental samples included n-Heptadecane, n-Octadecane, n-Eicosane, 46# paraffin, 48# paraffin and their mixtures. The experimental results showed that the changes of the phase change latent heat were very small and the phase change temperatures were hardly change after experimental materials produced phase change for several times. Paraffin did not produce super-cooling and was stable in the phase change process. The phase change temperatures and latent heats of paraffin mixtures can change with their composition. The phase change temperatures of 46# paraffin and 48# paraffin are higher, but their phase change temperatures can evidently decrease when they were mixed with a little of n-Heptadecane or n-Octadecane with lower phase change temperature. Paraffin mixtures have a wider phase change temperature range. So the paraffin mixtures can be used in the different fields by adjusting the mixed proportion. The results in this paper can provide basis for the application of phase change paraffin materials in the solar thermal storage field.
