Description Model of Topological Relation in Three-Dimensional Space
Spatial relation is mainly composed of topological, sequence and measurement relations, which is one important theoretical problem in the geographical information system (GIS). Topological characteristics of geometric figures are studied for the topological relation research in GIS. The topological feature is the characteristics which are not changed through the topological transformation. So the topological relation is one important kind of spatial relation.Research of topological relation includes the representation and reasoning. The previous study on topological relation was the description and reasoning of topological relation in the two-dimensional space. The representation of topological relation in the three-dimensional GIS is studied in the paper. Based on the simplex data structure model, the geometric entity can be divided into several sub-geometric objects, which are the point, line, triangle and tetrahedron. These objects are corresponding to the 0-, 1-, 2-, and 3-simplex, respectively. It is easy to operate and calculate for the spatial data with the simplex data model. The topological relations among point, line, triangle and tetrahedron in the three-dimensional GIS are studied based on the simplex data model. The representation model of topological relation is made with the nine-intersection matrix model. The geometric figures corresponding to the topological relation are shown with the nine-intersection matrix.
