Design of Spatial Information Management System for Population Based on Domestic Spatial Database
Population research is a hot area concerned in and abroad, especially researches on spatial information management system design, which can provide a sound base for understanding and analyzing regional differences and spatial distribution rules. In the fifth census, China developed some Geographic Information Systems of Population in many cities, which not only improve the efficiency of the census, but also extremely extend the utilization of the population information. However, the storage and management of spatial data and attribute data are almost separate in all of those systems, which are deficient in establishing the object-oriented spatial data management systems. So more and more spatial database management systems, such as Oracle Spatial and MySQL, store the spatial data and attribute data in the same database. They all use the inner-built spatial geometry model and the OGC models, which enable the storage capacity to achieve thousand-fold bytes and easily browse or inquire data via the client. ESRI has developed a system including ArcGIS, ArcSDE (Spatial Data Engine) and Database (Oracle, SQL Server, etc.),which is one of applications of these spatial data management systems. Currently, such large-scale spatial information management systems have been applied widely in land management fields, geographic mapping and management, transportation and pipeline management etc, but rare in the application of population. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the space-oriented database census spatial information management system. This paper researches on the system design of VisualMap, a spatial information management system for population based on the domestic spatial database-UBase, and explores the system framework, system functional modules and integrating technology, then builds the Spatial Information Management System for Population of Shangdong Province based on demonstration data.
