Analysis on Urban Area Expand in Chengdu City Based on 3S Technology

There has been a growing interest in the studying of urban expansion based on remote sensing image in recent years. It is an effective way to monitor urban dynamic change from the satellite image. Based on the Chengdu region TM/ETM+ image and SPOT image of remote sensing, the information of urban area expansion is been analyzed and extracted making use of the 3S technology. The methods of remote sense image correcting, image enhancing and image amalgamation are systematic analyzed. The image is more recognizable after been processed. The signs interpreted of RS image are established based on surveying in field and distinguishing in room. Combining auto-classification with visual interpreting, the land use/cover databases in 1986, 1995, 2000 and 2003 are established in researched area, the vector image of changed or unchanged on the classified image are overlaid. The result shows that the urban area attain 1.303 697×104 hm2、 1.961 505×104 hm2、 2.117 991×104 hm2、 2.785 475×104 hm2 in1986,1995,2000 and 2003 respectively, occupying for the proportion of the total area in Chengdu city 24.01%、 36%.12、 39%、 51.3% respectively. Expansion range and speed of two periods of 1986-1995 and 2000-2003 is biggest and quickest, urban area expansion amount to 6 578.08hm2 and 6 674.84hm2, and the expansion rate of urban area is 50.45712%, 31.51496% respectively. Based on combinative social-economic data and natural factors data of the city since 1986, according to the method of the factor analysis, conjoining qualitative description and quantitative analysis to analyze the factors rotated component matrix of expansion of urban area, and its drive forces is analyzed. The result shows that economy development, the urbanization process acceleration, population increases etc. humanities factor is the main driving forces leading to urban land utilization expansion.
