18O depletion in corundum bearing rocks from North Karelija(the Baltic Shield)
Extremely low δ18O of -15 to -21‰ has been determined for the corundum-bearing and associated Al2O3-enriched, SiO2-undersaturated rocks from Hetoostrov Island within the Archaean high-grade metamorphic Chupa suite (North Karelija, the Baltic Shield, Russia). The data are consistent with surface or near-surface 18O depletion for the protoliths of the corundum-bearing rocks prior to metamorphism caused by interactions with meteoric fluids having very low δ18O.
