Physicochemical characteristics of the Southern Iran thermal springs
The average temperature of the southern Zagros thermal springs is about 40 ℃ and they contain appreciable amounts of soluble materials and hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Based on measurements and evaluation of chemical analysis and comparison with fresh water and wells in the study area and also the assessments of water balance, the origin of these springs is concluded to be meteoric. Upon these investigations, the warming of springs is thought to be mainly the effect of geothermal gradient on deep regional circulation of water through joints, fractures and faults. Because of deep circulation, the water is contaminated with deep seated Hormoz Series evaporites and the oil field brines, resulting in an increase in dissolved ions content.
