Active and fossil geothermal systems in the continental riff zones of the Menderes Massif, Western Anatolia, Turkey
The epithermal Hg, Sb, and Au mineralizations in the rift zone of the Kücük Menderes, Western Anatolia, Turkey can be considered as fossil formations of formerly active geothermal systems due to various similarities of parameter with their equivalents in both systems. In connection with a cooling magma chamber,Sb mineralization at Emirli took place at temperatures from 260 to 180 ℃. The Hg mineralization at Halik(o)yforms the late phase and fluid inclusions there have homogenization temperatures between 200 and 130 ℃. A magmatic origin of volatile components is indicated by the values of δ13C, δ34S, 3He/4He, and 11 B/10B. Therefore, the studied epithermal mineral deposits can be compared to the other Hg, Sb and Au mineralizations in the riff zones of the Menderes Massif and considered as fossil equivalents of active geothermal fluids.
