Thermo-kinetic study on mineral dissolution by microcalorimetry

Microcalorimetric experiments are conducted to study dolomite, calcite and Icelandspar dissolution in HCl solutions. Real-time determinations of heat change during reaction process were made instead of using the traditional chemical analysis approach. The effects of mineral grain mesh size and solution acidity were considered. Results show that reaction rates increase with decreases in mineral grain size and with increases in solution pH. The relative mineral dissolution rates decrease from calcite, Iceland spar and dolomite.
