The use of advanced visualization tools for hydrogeochemical conceptual model development in site characterization programs
OpenDX is a visualization environment derived from the IBM Visualization System. This open source software environment can be used to create visual programs that provide imagery, along with interactive controls that allow users to directly manipulate the image display. This paper presents a visual program developed for hydrogeochemical modeling related to the Deep Geological Repository for Nuclear Waste in Sweden. The visualization tool allows handling of bedrock hydrochemical and isotopic data, combined with geographical information, drilling and construction features (such as boreholes and runnels) and geo-hydrological discrete objects such as deformation zones and hydraulic conductor domains. This tool has proven to be as a very useful complement for hydrogeochemical conceptual modeling.
