Hydrodynamic and reactive transport modeling of the behavior of compacted granite saw dust for landfill liners and covers
The elaboration of dimension stone produces large quantities of saw dust. This material that, at present, is an inert waste is being investigated in relation with its potential use as covers and/or liners for municipal solid waste landfills. We present in this work two preliminary numerical models that show the performance and durability of this barrier material from the point of view of water/rock interactions. Results suggest that saw dust is an adequate barrier material, both in terms of hydrodynamic properties (delay in the transfer of water) and durability.
