Microorganism corrosion on carbonate rock

Microorganism are important to carbonate rock corrosion in karst areas, but the research, especially on the microscopic characteristics of the microorganism corrosion is limited. In order to study microorganism corrosion on carbonate rock, we conducted experiments on the carbonate rock corrosion under four different conditions: water-rock system, water-rock-bacteria system, water-rock- actinomycete system and water-rock-fungi system. The results show that: 1. in the water-rock system, the corrosion of limestone was controlled by the surface reaction and the limited crystal was corroded; 2. in the water-rock-microorganism system, the corrosion was controlled by microscopic character of the rock sample and the micromorphology of microorganism. The corrosion occurred in crystals and adglutinate, the corrosion ability of different microorganisms is different, the order is: fungi > actinomycete>bacteria; and 3. in the experiments inoculated with microorganisms, micromorphology of crystal corrosion was controlled by the morphology of microoragnism.
