Groundwater resource assessment techniques in hard rock areas: The Tanum study, Sweden

In hard rock terrain the assessment of groundwater resources is often complicated due to the heterogeneity of the hard rock milieu and the fracturing system responsible for storing and transmitting water. An overview of the most applicable techniques in the assessment of groundwater reserves in hard rock areas has been done for the Municipality of Tanum in Sweden as a case study. This assessment embodies the techniques employed to determine aquifer parameters and the quality of the water present. The quantification of the resource and its chemical characterization is of vital importance for the effective monitoring and the sustainable management of the groundwater resources.
