Fengfeng formation aquiferous features and its water-resistance when mining with water pressure

Impermeability of the coal seam floor is one of the most important factors for a safe coal mining in a water pressure environment. A systematic study, using geologic data analysis, field observation and hydriogeological observation, was done on the geological conditions of the Taiyuan Formation(C3t) coal seam, which is mined under hydraulic pressure in the Shaqu Coal Mine. Through the study oflithology and sedimentary facies, the Fengfeng formation(O2f) could be divided into 4 segments and regarded as a relative aquiclude. The impermeability of the aquiclude was further investigated by means ofhydriogeological observation. The Fengfeng Formation is weakly aquiferous and a relatively confining bed exists between the Fengfeng Formation and waterrich upper Majiagou Formation. Through the permeability test under servo system (complete stress-strain path),the relationship among permeability, strain and stress of rock is obtained and analysed. According to the complete stress-strain process, the change characteristic of permeability of the rock transmuted under different pressure is discussed. Based on the rock that filled with different minerals in the crack, the principal difference between permeability-strain curve and permeability-stress curve is analysed. Finally the conclusion is put forward that Fengfeng Formation can be regarded as a relatively water-resistant layer, which will be favorable to the safe mining at the Shaqu Coal Mine.
