Geochemistry of Rare Earth Elements in PM10 of atmospheric particulates in Wuhan, central China
The geochemical characteristics of rare earth elements in PM 10 at three stations in Wuhan as well as their sources were analyzed between September 2003 and September 2004. Based on the results, REE in PM 10 in Wuhan is LREE-enriched and the temporal variations of REE and LREE are high in spring, autumn and low in summer, winter while REE at Mulanhu background station are similar in both seasons. The shale-normalized REE distribution patterns are similar and general pattern of EF distribution has 3 parts, which correspond to three sorts of REE. REE triangular diagram indicates that local soil is an important common source for REE in PM10 at Wuhan. Crustal weathering also contribute to REE at Mulanhu site; industrial emission become a major source of REE at Changqian; and industry, traffic as well as crustal sources have impact on REE in PM10 at Hankou site.
