Design and Implementation of an Airborne Real-time Video Image Compression System

In this paper, the design and implementation of an Airborne Real-time Video Image MPEG-4 Compression System are based on the newest media processor TMS320DM642. and the hardware structure and the working flow also are introduced in detail. The MPEG-4 algorithm has been optimized by using the software optimization technique based on C64X CPU, and the system implements the real-time compression and transmission of the D1 (704×576 )or CIF (352×288 )images at the rate of 25 frames per second, moreover, the compression rate is alterable according to the command.
