Fault Tree Analysis for Assessing Tianjin Urban Gas Pipelines Fault
Fault tree analysis is an important technique that is widely used for complex systems to make safety and reliability evaluation. Urban gas pipeline is one of the important hazardous sources; the consequence is usually the fire and explosion due to fault of gas pipeline. The fault analysis is necessary and important to risk management so as to improve the safety of urban pipeline. In this paper, various factors causing the pipeline to be failed are systematically analyzed and a fault tree of Tianjin urban gas pipeline is constructed. Through qualitative analyses of this fault tree, 70 minimum cut set of the fault tree is obtained and the important analysis of basic event is also calculated. The results show that serious corrosion by special medium (H20, H2S, 02, C02 ), failure of coating, artificial interference and defects of pipeline are the main events to cause the pipeline failure and to affect the safety and reliability of gas pipelines. Thus, we can apply this study to risk identify and improve the safety and reliability of Tianjin urban gas pipelines.
