RFID Implementation in China: Current Status, Issues, and Challenges

Radio Frequency Identification ( RFID) technology, mandates by large retailers and various government a-gencies, have driven requirements for many organizations to implement the technology. At least Chinese government and related companies plan to deploy RFID technology to get a competitive advantage in the near future but there are still many uncertainties about their actual return on investment ( ROI). In this paper, we examine open literature, news releases, and industry white papers to identify the adoption drivers, potential benefits, challenges, and strategy of implementing RFID in the industry concluding retailing, logistics, chemistry, tobacco and communication. The investigation indicates that the most important Critical Success Factor in China is tag reading efficiency after frequency analysis of companies applying RFID. We found that benefits emerged to be the most dominant adoption driver for these industries. This research work will throw some light on explaining why the lack of clear benefits slowing the progress of RFID adoption in China.
