Study on Decision of Price and Order in a SC System Under Time-Sensitive Demand
In this paper, we investigate the optimal decision of price and order for a manufacturer in a two-stage supply chain system consisting of one supplier and one manufacturer, when the supplier holds monopolistic status and the supply chain faces the time-sensitive demand. First, we analyze the operating environment of the manufacturer and understand the interrelationships among pricing of product, delivery time of raw material, demand, and the overall profitability of the manufacturer. Second, based on these interrelationships an optimization model to maximize manufacturer s net profit is developed with delivery time of raw materials, order quantity and market price as decision variables. Finally, we discuss the impact of choosing different delivery time of raw material to the optimal decision of price and order. Our study provides the optimal joint decisions on pricing and ordering for the manufacturer. We also find out, in some specific environment, firms are not necessary to make quick response, even if they face the time-sensitive demand. The study may help some today s Chinese LCD TV manufacturers to consider their problems.
