The Effects of Indigenous Innovation on Economic Growth in China: Evidence From the Provincial Data
The importance of technological change in economic growth has been accepted widely. But what is the main reason of the technological change of China? Lots of studies were based on the effect of foreign direct investment ( FBI) to the economic growth of China, and the indigenous technological innovation was ignored. We analyze the circumstance of the indigenous innovation in China, and model the economic growth, the FDI and the indigenous innovation in China. Using provincial data from 1995 to 2003, we find the positive effects of indigenous innovation in China and the effects of FDI are less than the indigenous innovation. Our empirical research reveals that at least the indigenous innovation in China has the same effect as the FDI on the economic growth of China. Based on the provincial data we find the provinces which are more active at self-innovation are much more powerful in economic growth in general. All these findings maybe explain the reason why Chinese central government addresses himself to improve the self-innovation ability of China
