Lean Six Sigma and Industrial Engineering
Lean Six Sigma is an integrated, systematic approach for continuous business process improvement. It is a management program aiming at achieving customer satisfaction through continuously improving the performance of business processes. Six Sigma disciplines include defect-free or waste free process/product design ( DFSS) and rigorous DMAIC ( define, measure, analyze, improve and control) cycle for existing process improvement so as to eliminate defects and non-value added activities. With Six Sigma, Businesses can dramatically improve quality and service, reduce cost and cycle time, improve customer satisfaction and business competitiveness. Comparative study of Lean Production and Six Sigma is conducted. Lean Six Sigma is not just the simple combination of Lean Production and Six Sigma. The underlying methodology of Lean Six Sigma is industrial engineering. Its very imperative for the companies which are planning to implement Lean Six Sigma to understand the body of knowledge of industrial engineering. The integrated roadmap for implementing Lean Six Sigma is also addressed.
