Motorola Six Sigma R&D and the Supply Chain
The presentation introduces Motorola University Asias supplier training/mentoring program in which Mot Labs certified DSS trainer mentored the suppliers BB interims to complete their Green Belt/Black Belt projects. The program is a win-win since the suppliers six sigma training costs are more than offset by the cost savings that are generated for their company and Motorola businesses save money since they share in the cost savings that are generated through this program. Experience on how the R&D lab staffs to help suppliers to reduce new product transfer cycle time and solve production problem through the consultant work is shared. The MU-Moto Labs Asia supplier training/mentoring program saved Motorola business units and their suppliers over $ 30M US in the past 5 years. It also helped Motorola suppliers build their six sigma skills for improving the quality performance and reducing the cost of parts/components/ subassemblies that Motorola purchases from them.
