The eradication of Classical Swine Fever in Japan
Classical swine fever has given a big damage to pig industry in Japan since the disease was first recognized in 1888. A superior vaccine made it possible to eradicate the disease from the whole country. The eradication program had carried out since 1996 and was terminated in 2006. The program using vaccination needed consensus of pig farmers and all the concerned parties such as cities, towns and other organizations. This document describes the history of control and eradication of CSF in Japan.
