A Multi-user Multi-beam Selection Scheme based on Orthonormal Random Beamforming for MIMO Downlink System

This paper investigates multi-user scheduling withlimited feedback of partial channel state information forMIMO downlink system based on orthonormal randombeamforming (ORBF). It already shows that ORBF couldreduce feedback information remarkably at the same time thethroughput is asymptotically optimal and scale as DPC.However ORBF yields severely degraded performance withlow to moderate number of users. In this work, we present amulti-user multi-beam selection scheme based on ORBF. Thecore idea is to feedback more channel information for thegroup of users identified by ORBF so that much more sum-ratecould be achieved even with low number of users. Weanalyze equal power allocation and adaptive power allocationamong beams respectively. Simulation results show thatsubstantial gain could be achieved at the expense of morefeedback channel state information and more complexity at thetransmitter
