ANC-Based TOA Estimation with L ower Sampling Rates for UWB Systems

High time resolution makes the UWB signal as a favor of the high accurate ranging technology. Since the bandwidth of a received UWB signal is very large, the Nyquist rate sampling becomes impractical. So energy detection (ED)algorithm with sub-Nyquist rate sampling becomes a feasible alternative. Though energy detection does not require accurate timing or pulse shapes, it suffers more from noise due to a square-law device, especially at lower SNR. This paper proposes an adaptive noise cancellation (ANC) based energy detection algorithm. By use of the ANC system, the effect of the noise is decreased obviously. Simulation results demonstrate the improvement in the mean absolute error (MAE) of TOA estimation when the proposed algorithm is used.
