A New Cluster Head Assignment Algorithm for Low Energy Clustering Communication Protocols in Wireless Sensor Network
One of the most important issues in wireless sensornetwork is the energy efficiency of the clusteringcommunication protocols. In clustering communication themore cluster heads are assigned, the more energy is consumedbetween the cluster heads and the base stations. On the otherhand, if we select a small number of cluster heads, the dataaggregations increase and so does the total distance betweenthe cluster heads and the others. Obviously, the energyconsumption will then increase. In this paper, we focus on theassignment of cluster heads in clustering communicationprotocols such that the energy consumption of a wirelesssensor network is minimized and the lifetime of the network ismaximized. In the proposed cluster heads assignmentalgorithm, an optimal number of nodes which have higherresidual energy level are assigned in a round. Experimentalresults demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. It is shown that that the lifetime of sensor network using thisalgorithm is longer than the existing methods.
