Analysis of the Spatial Determinants of Japanese FDI in China
Japanese FDI is a major contribution to Chinas economic development, but this development has been skewed spatially. Most of the Japanese FDI is located in the southeast of China, especially in the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta. We set up an econometric model to analyze the factors that determine the location of Japanese FDI.The result shows that the open degree is the most significant and positive factor that determine the spatial location of Japanese FDI. Wage is negatively but highly significant to the location of Japanese FDI. Education and preferable policy are also incentive to the inflow of Japanese FDI. But the transportation is not found statistically significant. In addition, we put forward some suggestions for the interior provinces on attracting the Japanese FDI.
