Technical Tote- EOQ and EPQ with Linear and Fixed Backorder Costs: Two Cases Identified and Models Analyzed without Calculus
Sphicas (2006)analyzed the EOQ and EPQ models each with linear and fixed backorder costs without calculus. However, his algebraic procedure and analysis are too complicated to be understood by ordinary readers. In this note, the complete squares method, which is usually taught when introducing the notion of a general quadratic equation in Form 2 at high school, is applied to derive the same optimum formulae and analytic findings in a straightforward manner. A numerical example has been solved to illustrate the solution procedure.
