A study on Coordination of Quantity-Based Dispatch and Inventory under VMI
VMI is a new pattern of management in which the supplier and other upstream enterprises manage and control the retailers and other downstream enterprises in a unified way. In this paper we present an integrated optimized model for quantity-based dispatch and inventory issue under VMI. Through optimized computation, we obtain the optimal dispatch frequency, the size of a dispatching, and the expected long-run average cost. And it shows: ifthe customer waiting cost is less than the inventory holding cost, the optimal dispatch frequency is equal to its replenishment frequency; if the customer waiting cost is more than the inventory holding cost, the supplier could save cost through coordinating the inventory and shipment process.
