CFD prediction of wind environment and snowdrift around a building
This paper presents the results of CFD prediction of drifting snow around a cubic building model. The present work numerically simulates a three-dimensional turbulent flow including the transport of snow. Here, the modified k-ε model proposed by Durbin was used. Transport equation for snowdrift density was solved to represent the suspension of snow particles. Snowdrift flux in saltation layer was evaluated by the model proposed by Pomeroy et al. The snow entrainment, subsequent deposition and erosion were calculated using the mass balance equation of snow in the Control Volume adjacent to the snow surface. Accuracy of the numerical predictions was assessed by comparing their results with those obtained by the field measurement conducted by Oikawa et al.
