Ambient air quality measurement and assessment of a residential habitation

Ambient air quality greatly influences indoor air quality and therefore peoples health. In this paper, the ambient air quality of a residential habitation near a MSW (municipal solid waste) combustion power plant is studied. SO2, NO2, HCL, and TSP (total suspended particle) were measured at 4 sample points, each a different distance from the pollution source. The results show that the concentration distribution presents certain regularity according to the distance from the source. Because of the high altitude emission effect of the pollution source, at a certain altitude pollutant concentration is higher at a point further from the source point, and then begins to decrease when the distance exceeds a certain value. CFD simulation was used to simulate pollutant diffusion and ambient concentration distribution, results of a numerical simulation accord well with the field measurement data.
