Numerical study on the effects of different reflective rate and evaporative rate of underlaying surfaces on thermal environment inside residential area
Based on SPOTE ( Simulation Platform for Outdoor Thermal Environment), lots of numerical experiments are carried out in order to study the effects of some important parameters such as reflective rate, evaporative rate of underlaying surfaces on the outdoor thermal environment inside residential area. The results of numerical experiments show that simply improving reflective rate could not always improve the thermal environment in summer, where SET (Standard Effective Temperature) for pedestrian comfort evaluation is not always lower when reflective rate increase. The reason is that a higher reflective ratio of outdoor underlaying surface could reflect solar heat to human body and decrease the comfort. However, increasing the evaporative rate of outdoor underlaying surface could improve the outdoor thermal environment obviously because the surface temperature, air temperature and radiation temperature together.
