Research on shading device of a residential house by energy simulation with energy plus program

It is needed to calculate the energy consumption of buildings, particularly accurate dynamic energy consumption calculation. Fixed shading devices of residential buildings can be used to save building energy.They can prevent undesirable heat coming through the windows during the overheated periods, as in summer;they can ameliorate the indoor environments and reduce energy consumption of air-conditioning system. But they also can prevent solar energy that can be used in winter to enter windows, that is, fixed shading devices can weaken the effect of daylighting. A typical dwelling house with two kinds of fixed shading devices (overhangs and vertical -shading devices) in Tianjin, China is simulated by the Energyplus4 program. This paper calculated energy saving of a dwelling house with different fixed shading devices by using Energyplus4 Program and give the optimum dimension of shading devices. For the south ex-window, fixed horizontal shading devices are more effective and saving more energy than vertical shading devices.
