Feasibility study on introducing combined heat and power system in Shanghai Chongming Island
Increasing concern regarding the depletion of fossil energy resources and the pollution of the environment has verified the interest in developing high efficiency energy generation technologies. Distributed energy system, especially the combined heating and power (CHP) is one of these effective technologies. In this paper,a proposed CHP system for prototypes of buildings has been evaluated for Shanghai Chongming Island, China,to determine the energy savings, environmental impact, and economic efficiency. Compared with a conventional system, we indicate to what extent, primary energy consumption and CO2 emissions have been decreased by CHP in the buildings. Then, given the special conditions in China, we try to demonstrate the possibility of introducing CHP in to different types of Shanghai buildings by investigating investment, annual running, energy, and labor costs.
