Optimal design of packed bed for PCM cool storage in air- conditioning system

An optimal design method is presented for packed bed of PCM (Phase Change Material) cool storage system based on the heat transfer characteristics. In the optimal model, the total cost of the apparatus and the annual operating cost is used as the objective function and the cool storage, charging time, and temperature of the working liquid are set up as the constraint conditions. A new PCM, ethanolamine -water binary mixture is used as cool storage medium, and the optimal parameters are obtained when the cool storage is given. The minimum total cost of the packed bed is calculated and the influence of the ratio of peak-valley electricity rates on the operating cost is analyzed.
